AGNES aims to support highly qualified young Sub-Saharan African scientists to address development issues of the region; and increase visibility of AGNES and the Humboldt grantees.

Founded in 2011 by 31 African and German Humboldtians and the Alexander von Humboldt representatives, the AGNES has been led by an interim committee up to 2014.

AGNES programmes aim to identify and support highly qualified young Sub-Saharan African scholars to tackle development issues in Sub Saharan Africa, through research.

Our vision is to reinforce capacities of excellent young African researchers to carry our research on solutions to development challenges in Africa and prepare them to compete for the prestigious AvH fellowships in order increase the success rate of African postdocs when they apply for these fellowships.
